Clinical Obaervation of Brodie´s Abscess

Abstract
|
|
|
Brodie´s absess is one of the rare disease entity and still controversial as to the causative organisms and method of treatment. The mild clinical manifestation accompanies frequent confusion with neuralgia, rheumatism, and thromboangiitis obliterans.
The author reviewed 21 cases of Brodie´s abscess diagnosed and treated at our department for six years from July of 1960 to the present date, with the following results.
.1. Preponderance of male to female (2.5 : 1) was noted.
´2. Prevalent age distribution was between 1st and 2nd decade.
3. Distal tibia and femur are the predominant site of occurrence.
4. Bacteriological study for identiflca.tion of organisms and the sensitivity test revealed that in 9 cases (43%) there could be proved no growth and in another 4 (18%) distinction of the growth present was impossible.
.5. Brief review and comment was made as to the method of treatment besides the causative mechanism.
